The national climbing team has secured three Olympic spots in advance after achieving success at the Olympic Qualifier Series in Shanghai. One of these spots was claimed by Deng Lijuan, an undergraduate student at Donghua University.
Deng has been a standout performer, winning four gold medals in women’s speed climbing events at International Federation of Sport Climbing World Cup stops in 2022 and 2023. She also clinched a gold medal in the women’s speed relay and a silver medal in the individual speed climbing event at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou.
With her eyes set on the upcoming Paris Olympics, Deng expressed her confidence, stating, “Standing on the highest podium of the Olympic Games is the dream of every athlete. I am currently actively preparing for the Olympics!”
Climbing holds a special place in the campus culture of Donghua University. As the 100-day countdown to the Paris Olympics began on April 17, the national climbing team arrived at the university for a month-long pre-Olympic qualification training.
The sports department at Donghua University emphasized the importance of physical education and the cultivation of sports stars. The university has established numerous sports teams, student clubs, and faculty associations, achieving success in various sports including football, pole vault, handball, shooting, and climbing.
