Jernej Kruder Conquers the Legendary Greenspit: A Testament to Perseverance and Skill
A few days ago, Slovenian climbing pro Jernej Kruder accomplished an impressive feat by climbing Greenspit in the Valle dell’Orco. Known as one of the most famous and challenging crack routes in Europe, Greenspit demands exceptional skill and determination.
Intensive Training Pays Off
Kruder has recently dedicated himself to mastering crack climbing, showing a remarkable learning curve. His trips to Pedriza and intense training sessions have not only honed his crack climbing skills but also bolstered his confidence. “I tried this route a few years ago, but with a completely different perspective,” he said.
Overcoming Unexpected Difficulties
Despite his training, Kruder’s return to Greenspit was not as smooth as anticipated. “I thought I would cruise through the hand jams and maybe have problems at the crux, but I was wrong,” he admitted. His first attempt made him feel like a beginner again.
The Final Push
Confidence restored, Kruder made two more attempts, each bringing him closer to his goal. The motivation from working with fellow climber Giacomo Meliffi also played a crucial role. On the last day before departure, both climbers made their final attempts. “We both did well in the first attempt, but we couldn’t get through Greenspit,” Kruder noted. However, persistence paid off, and Kruder successfully completed the route on his second attempt of the day.
Jernej Kruder’s successful climb of Greenspit highlights the importance of perseverance, intensive training, and the support of fellow climbers in achieving remarkable feats.
